The Anvil Inn is situated in the little
village of Sawdon, 1.5 miles north of the A170 tourist route
which links the market town of Thirsk in the west with the
seaside resort of Scarborough in the east. The village is
on the edge of Wykeham Forest with its stunning viewpoint
over Dalby Dale -all in all it is beautiful walking country.
Sawdon is well placed for access onto the A64 and the ancient
city of York, as well as the Yorkshire coast resorts of Whitby,
Scarborough and Filey- also known as the Dinosaur Coast because
of the cliffs and beaches rich in fossils.
The Anvil Inn was a working forge until the mid 1980s. The
building itself is over two hundred years old and the blacksmith’s
workshop- now the bar- retains almost all of its original
features. There is a wealth of memorabilia such as the old
furnace, the bellows, lots and lots of tools, and of course
the anvil itself.
Sit yourself down on the old pew and enjoy a pint of real
ale or a glass of wine after a walk through the dale with
its beautiful springtime rhododendrons, or relax in the pretty
beer garden and enjoy a glorious Sawdon sunset.
All this combines to make it a characterful and atmospheric
place to come for a drink or a meal – candlelit at night
and warmed by the log burning stove. |

Chef/proprietors Mark Wilson and Alexandra Warricker will
be delighted to see you and will do all they can to ensure
your visit to the Anvil Inn is as enjoyable and memorable
as possible. |
